Before running SMOP Setup, gather the following information and/or follow these steps:
Have a Windows 2003 Server or higher with Internet Information Sever (IIS) installed to use for SMOP
Have administrative access to the console (either directly or through a remote terminal services session) for this server
Have an existing Active Directory domain to manage and its name
Have an Active Directory account that has the ability to change passwords and enable locked accounts (see SMOP Service Account)
Have an Active Directory group you would like to use that will have access to the SMOP Administration Pages. (see SMOP Admin Group).
Have a database ready to use for SMOP. If you don't have an existing database, install SQL Server 2005/2008 Express Edition (recommended).
Have the following database information (see Database Requirements)
If using external database server, name of server (or IP address)
If using local database server (SQL Server 2005 Express Edition) - the instance name (if not the default instance)
sa account
sa password
port that is being used for SQL Server (default is 1433)
SMOP requires .NET Framework 3.5 or higher. Please make sure you have the correct version of .NET Framework installed and registered with IIS.
To register .NET Framework with IIS, follow the following steps:
This will register the .NET Framework version that you have selected with IIS.
SMOP has two different setups depending on whether you are upgrading or doing a fresh installation.
They are as follows:
SMOPSetup.exe: This file is a self extracting executable file that will extract the full SMOP installation. Please see the release notes about some precautions to take when using the full installation.
SMOP11UpgradeSetup.exe: This is for existing SMOP customers and will upgrade your present SMOP 1.0 installation to SMOP 1.1.
Once you have gathered the required information and selected which setup to run, you may proceed to install SMOP or upgrade SMOP.
